Another iconic “Big Sur” location is Bixby Bridge. I stopped here just after sunset to shoot this. I couldn’t decide which side I liked better, what do you think? Click here to see the shot from the other side
Even though it was cold, I loved sitting there and watching the waves crash in over the rocks. This one was taken on Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur
This is the view of San Francisco from Battery Spencer, an old battery that you can walk around. There are great views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and the San Francisco skyline from there. It was very hazy that morning which actually provided beautiful light. This was taken with the 100mm 2.8L
I think this was the best view in that park (at least the areas that we drove through). All day long there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, finally they started to build and gave some added interest to the scene here. On the right is Bridalveil Falls (I think). This is two horizontal photos […]
So this was my last chance to capture a sunset on the coast, and, as you can see, it didn’t work out. A saying my kids learned is “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit”, it’s a rhyme they picked up at the daycare. I know, I know, most of you […]
Still heading up California State Route 1, we drove through Big Sur. It was a beautiful place, but very cloudy so we continued to Carmel. We spent the evening and the next day in Carmel/Monteray when the sun came out! Excited to see the sun for the first time in a couple days, I decided […]
So day 5 took us back to the coast, south of San Francisco. We drove quite a bit on California State Route 1 when we came across Julia Pfiefer Burns State Park. It’s a beautiful spot with a waterfall that pours out onto the beach. Click Here to see a wider shot of the entire “lagoon” […]
This is looking up at a couple giant sequoia trees in Mariposa Grove, part of the Yosemite National Park. These huge trees are tough to photograph. For a better sense of scale, check this one out. Details: This is a 7 exposure HDR, learn how I process my HDR images at www.sohdr.com
This is looking across Yosemite Valley from Glacier Point. Half Dome is the large dome shaped rock to the right. When we decided to visit California with no plans what so ever, I knew that I would have to be lucky more than anything else. I had never researched Yosemite park for best shooting locations […]
