No gates + No entry fees + No closing times + No tripod police + Beautiful location = Photographers dream
I took a quick roadtrip (quick because I was leaving from Raleigh, NC) to the Outer Banks. I hung out at the Bodie Island lighthouse for a couple hours. Shooting it before, during, and after sunset and into the night. I’ve got a couple of photos that I want to share over the next week or so. Hope you all enjoy!

Pigeon Point Lighthouse in Fog
/0 Comments/in beach, California, Scenic/Landscape/Waterscape /by MalcolmCould there be a time where a lighthouse is needed more? Actually, I’m not real sure it was very effective in this weather. I was standing pretty close to it (shot with a fairly wide angle, 24mm) and I could barely see the it. Any further away and it would have been completely concealed in the fog. Although I guess that with GPS and radars that lighthouses are not that important anymore.
Anyways, this is Pigeon Point Lighthouse in California. You can find it right on the coastal highway near Pescadero. This is a slightly different angle than what I posted previously.
Pigeon Point Lighthouse
/1 Comment/in beach, California, HDR, Scenic/Landscape/Waterscape /by MalcolmSo this was my last chance to capture a sunset on the coast, and, as you can see, it didn’t work out. A saying my kids learned is “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit”, it’s a rhyme they picked up at the daycare. I know, I know, most of you are saying “Rhyme? That doesn’t rhyme” – well in Tennessee it does (You git what you git and don’t throw a fit)
So once again I scouted this location and decided to return at sunset. When I returned to the original spot I choose, the fog was so thick I couldn’t even see the lighthouse, much less the sun. So I moved closer, shot the fog and the waves for a little while and headed on to the motel.
I’m pretty happy with the shot, but I would have loved some sunset color… Oh well, maybe next time 🙂
Stay tuned, I’ll be posting more photos from various points along my 7 day road trip in California
