Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier, Ft Walton Beach Florida

Back in September I visited Destin, FL to photograph a wedding. I got up early one day and found a pier in nearby Ft Walton Beach.

The Colors of Water

Here’s a fun series I started back when I was doing the Radnor Lake project. With my recent trip to Cades Cove, I finally got enough to make a decent collection!

The next time you are on or near the water, take a look – what colors do you see?

These photos have had very little to no post processing. The colors are real (except for the two black and white photos of course)!

Thanks for looking!

Don’t forget, all my prints are discounted for the entire month of June. Head on over to my storefront to browse and order your print!

This Week at the Lake – 51/52

Last Saturday I got my 6 year old son up extra early for a hike around Radnor Lake. We got there just in time for a great sunrise. I let him use my Rebel XSi (now that I’m on the 7D) and he loved it! He loved walking around with the camera strapped around his neck. I think he took more photos that I did! We saw everything I told him we might see: Barred Owl, Deer, Turkey, Ducks, Geese, Birds, Squirrel, and Chipmunks. Fun morning, something we’ll definitely do again soon…

Here he is shooting some deer:
I’ll have to post some of his photos here sometime

Here is another shot of the sunrise:

And the light on the lake:

This shot looks like something from November. The morning light coming from around the bend was great!

Here are a couple large Bucks we saw:

Here is another Buck taken another morning:

And some more Owl photos from the week:

And that’s it for the week! Next week is the finale! The weather forcast looks good, so let’s hope for something great!!

Thanks for looking!

This Week at the Lake – 46/52

That’s pretty much how this entire week looked – Dark, cloudy, rainy/snowy, cold….

Because of all the rain, I was only able to visit Radnor Lake twice this week. I went Wednesday morning, and Friday mid-day.

Wednesday morning was very dark and rainy so I was only able to get a couple shots, the one above and this one:

Finally the sun broke out briefly on Friday so I headed to the lake on my lunch break. Of course, I ran into the owl again! I believe this is the same one as last week because they were in the same area. This time, however, he was not very active. It was mid-day and very cold. He found a spot in the sun and was just sitting tight:

While watching this owl, I saw another bird that I’ve only seen one other time at the lake. I have no idea what it is but it looks pretty awesome. This time, I actually got a shot of him:

Anyone know what this is??? He’s fairly large, probably about the size of a blue jay.

Also got a shot of this little snow covered ceder:

Got this on the way back to the car

I’m sure not many people go to Radnor Lake and take a photo of the equipment in the parking lot, but hey, I thought it looked cool!

And that’s it for the week!

Thanks for looking!

This Week at the Lake – 40/52

Cold week this week – next week will be just as cold if not colder!

I went to Radnor Lake on Monday – it was so cold, all I did was walk to this spot, take a shot, and walk back.
Does it look as cold as it felt? The wind was blowing and, since it was on my lunch break, I was considerably under-dressed.
On the way back to the car, I did stop to get this shot as well

I also noticed these ice crystals forming at the base of these plants. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before, pretty neat looking

Wednesday I had the opportunity to visit early in the morning, so I dressed with as many layers as I could:
18 degrees outside when I got there!

But I dressed for the occasion:

and got there in time for the sunrise.

It was really not that bad when I was dressed appropriately.

And that’s it for the week!

This Week at the Lake – 39/52

Wow, tough week! I knew it was going to get tough once winter arrived. I visited five times this week but just couldn’t get any shots that are really eye catching. I guess that’s all part of a year long project, I’m going to have to get really creative for the next 13 weeks….

The one thing that I could get shots of this week were little birds.

This is a Robin taking a bath

On Friday I went down Otter Creek Road a bit and watched the geese

Now a geese taking a bath…

Other miscellaneous shots from Friday

And that’s it for the week!

This Week at the Lake – 38/52

A very quiet week this short week. I was only able to visit Radnor Lake a couple times because of the Thanksgiving Holidays.

The first day I went was Monday mid-day. I only came away with one decent shot:

I got up to go early Tuesday morning but as soon as I left the house it began to pour down rain on me and it continued to rain all day. So I tried again Wednesday morning. No rain this time so I arrived at the lake at about 6am. I got the lead shot waiting for the sun to rise. Although there was a lot of color on the water, there really wasn’t much of a sunrise. So I headed out on the trails:
I soon spotted this buck missing half his rack – I’ve seen several bucks like this so far this year.

I didn’t get much that morning so I went back later that day before heading home from work.

Soon after taking this shot at the beginning of the trail, it began to pour again! So I covered the camera with some plastic and headed back to the car. Along the way I stopped for a few more shots:

I actually passed several people on the trail when it was raining very hard. I was surprised to see so many people out at the lake in such ugly weather

And that’s it for the week!

Thanks for looking!

This Week at the Lake – 32/52

What a tough week to pick a lead shot, I wanted to put all of these first! Tuesday and Wednesday morning were both stormy/rainy which made for some great HDR conditions. Here are some others from those two mornings:

It’s me 🙂

A couple of other non-hdr from Wednesday morning:

Who says turtles are slow!? This guy was moving quickly across the path

The sun was back out in full force on Thursday. I spent my entire lunch break there trying to capture a leaf in mid air falling from a tree. It took around 100 shots but I finally got this one:

Not exactly the composition I wanted but I am more than happy to settle for it! A very tough shot to get…

I went back Friday at lunch and just wanted to capture some fall color:

And that’s it for the week!
